Islamabad: Denmark celebrates Constitution Day on 05 June. This day commemorates the signing of the Danish Constitution on 5 June, 1849 which marked the end of enevælden (absolute monarchy), and the beginning of democracy in Denmark.
On this day, the Danes celebrate the fundamental pillars of democracy: freedom of speech, individual rights, and freedom of assembly.
5 June was also the day, when important amendments were made to the Constitution: In 1915, Danish women received the right to vote, and in 1953, women were allowed to succeed to the throne.
