Islamabad, July 27, 2024 – A farewell lunch was held today in honor of H.E. Andrea Wicke, Ambassador of Austria to Pakistan, as she concludes her tenure in the country. The event was hosted by Sardar Waqar Shahzad Advocate and attended by distinguished guests, including Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi, ambassadors from Japan, H.E. Mr. Akamatsu Shuichi, the Philippines, H.E. Emmanuel, and Vietnam, as well as the Defence and Political Attaches of the United States.
In his speech, Sardar Waqar Shahzad Advocate praised Ambassador Wicke’s dedication to strengthening ties between Austria and Pakistan. He highlighted her efforts in promoting cultural exchange, education, and people-to-people connections, which have left a lasting impact on the bilateral relationship.
Sardar Waqar Shahzad also expressed gratitude for Austria’s cooperation in areas such as clean energy and technical education, as well as its generous support during times of need. He wished Ambassador Wicke good health, happiness, and continued success in her future endeavors.
In a gesture of appreciation and friendship, Ambassador Wicke gifted Sardar Waqar Shahzad’s family with thoughtful presents, including a beautiful purse for his wife, Dr. Salma Ahmad, and delightful chocolates for their daughters, Eshaal Waqar, Elham Waqar, and Merha Waqar.
In return, Sardar Waqar Shahzad presented Ambassador Wicke with a traditional woollen Shaal of Swat Valley, symbolizing the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan. Additionally, he gifted peaches from Swat Valley to every participant at the lunch, showcasing the region’s famous produce.
Ambassador Wicke’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements, including enhanced cooperation between Austria and Pakistan in various fields. Her legacy is expected to endure, and her presence will be missed in Pakistan.
