TheĀ  National Liberation Front (FLN) and National Democratic Rally (RND), alongside the largest Islamist opposition bloc, the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), continue to be the primary competing factions.

The government implemented a rigorous administrative review process. Out of more than 10,000 applicants, over 3,000 candidacies were rejected. The administration states this is intended to sever the link between private money and public office.
