ISLAMABAD : Monitoring Desk – The United States of America has finally made her entry to the most sensitive region in the South Asia and in the neighborhood of China. The US Ambassador to India , Sergio Gor visited Srinagar marking the first standalone trip by a U.S. envoy to the region since the abrogation of Article 370.
The visit of US Ambassador from Indian side is also important in the context of public riots in some parts of Pakistani Kashmir.
During his visit, Ambassador Gor met with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and publicly stated that Jammu and Kashmir is an “important part of India” signalling Washington’s continued recognition of India’s position on the Union Territory.
Pakistn has strongly protested on the remarks of Gor and summoned US CdA in Islamabad Ms Natalie A Baker to Foreign Office and handed over to her a demarche on the Visit of Sergio Gor, to IIOJK, and issuing incorrect statement regarding the status of
the disputed territory.
His remarks came after a meeting with J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday, during the first standalone visit by a US envoy to Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the Pahalgam attack.
He said , we have some follow ups to do. Umar Abdullah said, we look forward to forge a partnership with US and further bilateral cooperation between India and US and also we discussed what US can do for Jammun Kashmir.

U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor’s visit to Kashmir marks the first trip by a US ambassador to the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370.
The visit comes after the 2025 Pahalgam attack and amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions, making Gor’s trip significant for regional security and India-US ties.
China only few days ago said Arunachal Pardesh is not part of India. US Ambassador said in Srinagar Jammu Kashmir is important of India. US has not reacted on the statement of China on Arunachal Pardesh. It shows more interest of US in Kashmir than in North East of India.
Key Details of the Visit: Ambassador Sergio Gor held discussions with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah focusing on economic cooperation, regional engagement, and development.
Diplomatic Stance: Gor explicitly referred to Jammu and Kashmir as an important part of India, reinforcing Washington’s diplomatic alignment.
Travel Advisory Review: The U.S. side signaled a forthcoming review of Washington’s travel advisory regarding travel to Jammu and Kashmir.
Local Engagement: The ambassador also took a traditional shikara ride on Dal Lake during his two-day itinerary in the valley.

The U.S. Charge d’ Affaires in Islamabad was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today and a strong demarche was lodged over the factually incorrect remarks of U.S. Ambassador to India, regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir,during his visit to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan strongly condemned and categorically rejected the characterisation of Jammu and Kashmir as a “part of India”. It was underscored that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory, awaiting final disposition in accordance with the relevant UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
It was highlighted that the irresponsible statement by the U.S. Ambassador negated the long-standing and well-documented position of the United Stateson the Jammu & Kashmir dispute, and also ran contrary to the United States’ commitment to supremacy of international law and the UN Charter.
While appreciating President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate between India and Pakistan to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in the aftermath of Marka-e-Haq, the U.S. side was urged to ensure that its public statements remain consistent with the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.
