ISLAMABAD: A 28-year-old foreign woman from Belgium, as she claimed, with no travel documents and ID has alleged that she was raped for 5 days in Islamabad. Police have apprehended a suspect, Tameezuddin, who was identified based on the woman’s statement. Tameezuddin, a resident of Sector G-6, has asserted that the woman was mentally upset.
According to police sources, the woman was found abandoned by unidentified individuals in Sector G-6, with her hands tied up.
The incident came to the attention of the authorities when a citizen discovered the woman and immediately reported her condition to the police by calling emergency helpline 15. Upon receiving the call, police arrived at the scene and rescued the woman, who was visibly shaken and in distress.
The woman told the police in her initial statement that she had been sexually assaulted over five days. The victim’s preliminary statement to the police confirmed the abuse she had endured at the hands of unknown individuals during her ordeal.
The woman was transported to the Polyclinic Hospital for a thorough medical examination to ascertain the extent of her injuries and collect evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Police quickly jumped into action and arrested a suspect on the identification of the woman. The Aabpara police arrested the suspect from Sector G-6 street number 35.
According to police sources, the suspect claims the woman is mentally ill, and does not even have any identity or travel documents. To look for her travel documents, Aabpara police went to the suspect’s house again.
The sources said the suspect was sent to the Polyclinic Hospital for medical examination. A person in charge of the Embassy talked with the police and the victim, for about 30 minutes. She was very confused and didn’t have any kind of ID. Despite  best efforts, at this stage the Embassy is unable to confirm she’s indeed a Belgian national.
The Embassy offered her  full support and sympathy, and condemn this type of assault in the strongest possible terms. The Embassy is collaborating with the police to help facilitate the investigation, and following-up with others EU member States to try to determine if the victim is an EU national.
