Canadian High Commission and Pink Ribbon Pakistan Collaborate in Terry Fox Run to Raise Awareness on Breast Cancer

ISLAMABAD: – Canada High Commission and Pink Ribbon Pakistan collaborated to hold Terry Fox Run in Islamabad to raise awareness about breast cancer in women and pay tributes to Terry Fox a Canadian hero who ran 5,373 km across Canada  in 1980 despite having lost his leg to cancer.
Canadian High Commissioner Ms. Leslie Scanlon and CEO of Pink Ribbon Pakistan Mr. Omar Aftab let the friends and workers in this activity.
Omar Aftab says, Over 10 million women are at risk of Breast Cancer while more than 40,000 women die from this disease every year in Pakistan. This event continues to inspire courage & raise funds for cancer research worldwide through his ’Marathon of Hope.’

According to National Institute of Health Islamabad, Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer among Asian countries: one in nine women is at risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. According to the International Agency of Research on Cancer 2018 report, 34,066 new cases of breast cancer had been reported in Pakistani women.
In Asia, Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer. Young women also present at advanced stage of breast cancer, which has negative effect on prognosis. In rural areas, rural women are developing a great number of breast cancers every year because it is an inherited disease, which is transmitted from mother to daughter.
Pakistani rural as well as urban women are facing cervical, ovarian and uterine cancers . Screening centers are not available in Pakistan to diagnose various type of cancer and every year a great number of women are dying due to breast cancer and Hepatitis-C.
