ISLAMABAD : Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, welcomed Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs, H.E. Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, who called on him at Parliament House, Islamabad.
The High Commissioner of Malaysia Mohammad Azhar Mazlan and members of the delegation were also present in the meeting. From Pakistani side, State Minister Interior Talal Chaudhary, Leader of House in Senate Sherry Rehman, Opposition Leader in Senate Raja Nasir Abbas were present.
The Malaysian Interior Minister appreciated Pakistan’s warm hospitality and reaffirmed Malaysia’s desire to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared resolve to deepen the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Malaysia through enhanced parliamentary, political, economic, educational, defence and people-to-people contacts.
The Chairman underscored the deep-rooted, brotherly and cordial relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, founded on shared religious, cultural and historical bonds and strong people-to-people contacts.
He emphasized the need to further translate excellent political relations into greater trade, investment, business-to-business cooperation, education, defence collaboration and parliamentary engagement.
Chairman Senate highlighted Pakistan’s strategic geographical location and its potential to serve as a gateway for Malaysian businesses to Afghanistan, Central Asia and Western China, creating new opportunities for regional connectivity and trade.
He also welcomed the signing of the Treaty on the International Transfer of Prisoners and expressed hope for further progress on the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.
The Chairman invited Malaysian investors to benefit from investment opportunities in Pakistan through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and emphasized the potential for cooperation in the semiconductor sector.
He further highlighted Pakistan’s young population and its skilled human resource potential, while appreciating the steady progress in Pakistan–Malaysia defence cooperation.
