Rawalpindi / Tehran : 25 August 2026 – Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff & Chief of Defence Forces, along with Minister for Interior Mr Mohsin Naqvi, concluded a day-long visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to end the stalemate in the ongoing US-Iran conflict and explore ways for achieving enduring peace and permanent end to instability in the region.
The Field Marshal called on H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, H.E. Mohsen Rezaei, Representative of the Supreme Leader on the Supreme National Security Council, H.E. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Parliament of Iran, H.E. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran, and H.E. Eskandar Momeni, Minister of Interior of Iran.
Comprehensive discussions focused on measures to prevent further escalation, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and expedited termination of the conflict. The two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and the ways to arrive at a negotiated settlement to the disputes.
The Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and sincere efforts towards facilitating dialogue, de-escalation and a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
Upon arrival, the Field Marshal was received by H.E. Eskandar Momeni, Minister of Interior of Iran and other senior Iranian civil and military officials.

President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir have stressed the need for a shift in US policy toward Iran, strict adherence to the Islamabad Agreement, and stronger Islamic unity to counter regional threats during high-level talks in Tehran on Monday.
During a meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir on Monday evening, President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s constructive mediation efforts in promoting regional peace and stability, voicing confidence that joint cooperation would realize the goals of the Islamabad agreement.
President Pezeshkian urged Washington to respect international law and honor its commitments toward Iran. He noted that the US must alter its posture toward Tehran, warning that reliance on coercion only complicates diplomatic efforts.
Pointing to the Iranian public’s resilience, President Pezeshkian said that national unity would allow Iran to withstand external pressures and threats.
Highlighting regional peace and Muslim solidarity as core priorities, Pezeshkian affirmed Iran’s readiness to expand economic, political, and security cooperation with neighboring Islamic nations. He added that unity among Muslim countries serves as the primary deterrent against plots by the Israeli regime and adversaries of Islam.
For his part, General Asim Munir commended President Pezeshkian’s efforts toward regional stability, emphasizing that thorough diplomatic processes are essential to achieving a comprehensive agreement.
General Munir praised the trajectory of bilateral relations, noting that the shared historical, religious, and cultural ties between Iran and Pakistan provide a foundation for navigating current challenges.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to its mediating role, General Munir expressed optimism that resolving the present crisis would mark the beginning of a new era of regional development and collective security.
Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Major General Mohsen Rezaei has voiced distrust of the US and stressed Iran’s security control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Major General Rezaei made the remarks in a meeting with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir on Monday.
The top Iranian security official further stressed that Washington must change its behavior and take practical steps to implement the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Munir, for his part, stressed the two countries’ brotherly ties and Islamabad’s efforts to strengthen security along their shared border.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf says Iran will not yield to pressure, calling on the US to honor its commitments under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU).
During a meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran on Monday, Ghalibaf reviewed instances where the United States has failed to uphold its commitments under the Islamabad MoU.
Ghalibaf, who leads the Iranian negotiating team, emphasized that the obligations of both parties under the Islamabad MoU are clear, pointing out that the United States’ failure to fulfill its commitments has hindered regional stability and further eroded trust in Washington.
He also rejected the notion that external pressure could influence Iran, asserting that Tehran remains committed to implementing the terms of the MoU. Ghalibaf said that the United States must honor its commitments as stipulated in the agreement.
For his part, Asim Munir said that he would continue his efforts to help restore stability in the region.
