ISLAMABAD : 19 May 2024 – Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning on Monday addressing regional security concerns,reiterated China’s neutral stance on India-Pakistan relations and its ongoing efforts to support peace and stability in the region.
While the very next day, on 20 May , Pakistan’s visiting DPM/ Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar appreciating China’s support to Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful neighbourhood while affirming its right and capability to defend its territory and people.
The spokesperson said, “China attaches great importance to its relationships with both India and Pakistan. We consistently advocate for dialogue, restraint, and the avoidance of actions that could escalate tensions.”
Spokesperson emphasized the significance of Pakistan’s engagement with China, citing Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar’s official visit as a reflection of Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
“China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners, maintaining close high-level exchanges and robust cooperation,” Mao stated during her regular press briefing.
Pakistan appreciates China’s support for her sovereignty and territorial integrity
The visit, spanning three days, underscores Islamabad’s intent to further deepen its strategic partnership with Beijing. Mao affirmed that China is ready to work with Pakistan to implement key understandings reached between their leaders, enhance strategic communication, and accelerate efforts toward building a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.
Mao also noted that China welcomed the existing ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan and expressed Beijing’s willingness to play a constructive role in promoting a long-term, comprehensive peace.
“The Chinese government remains committed to principles of good-neighborliness and fairness and will continue engaging with both sides to foster lasting stability in South Asia,” she added.
Foreign Minister Dar’s visit is expected to include high-level meetings aimed at reinforcing bilateral cooperation in economic, security, and development domains.
