ISLAMABAD : During Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Cuba on February 5, 2026, China expressed strong support for Cuba’s sovereignty and warned against external interference, according to China Global South.Wang Yi emphasized that the United States’ attempts to pressure Cuba through economic sanctions and political influence are unacceptable and violate international norms. China reiterated its long-standing partnership with Cuba, highlighting cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and international diplomacy.
Wang Yi also underlined the importance of respecting each country’s right to self-determination and called for enhanced bilateral collaboration to resist external coercion. Cuban officials welcomed China’s position, affirming the need for a sovereign foreign policy and highlighting ongoing economic cooperation projects, including energy and medical infrastructure.
Analysts say China’s statement signals a strengthened strategic partnership with Cuba amid rising tensions with the United States in the Western Hemisphere.
