ISLAMABAD : The University of Loralai is exploring new avenues of institutional cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in olive cultivation, research, processing, value addition, technology transfer and entrepreneurship.
During a meeting with H.E. Dr. Maen Khraisat, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Worthy Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Ehsanullah Khan Kakar discussed promising opportunities to strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and Jordan, particularly in the emerging olive sector of Balochistan.
University of Loralai’s Olive Initiative
The University’s olive initiative spans approximately 220 acres with around 20,000 olive plants, with a vision to develop an integrated Olive Research, Production, Training & Entrepreneurship Hub.
The University’s newly established Centre for Entrepreneurship, which has already incubated 16 companies, further strengthens this vision by creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs across the olive value chain.
Learning from Jordan’s Experience
Jordan’s extensive experience in olive cultivation and olive-oil production offers valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange and institutional collaboration. The University of Loralai looks forward to exploring linkages with relevant Jordanian universities, research institutions, government organizations and olive-sector stakeholders.
Potential areas of cooperation include joint research, expert exchanges, training programmes, nursery development, modern extraction technologies, laboratory testing, quality assurance, certification, value addition, branding and entrepreneurship.
From Farm to Bottle — From Balochistan to Global Markets
The vision is to establish a complete “Farm-to-Bottle” value chain, connecting modern nurseries and orchards with harvesting, extraction, laboratory testing, certification, packaging, branding and entrepreneurship, ultimately linking producers with national and international markets.
