Renowned anchor person of Pakistan Television Global, Mr. Faisal Rehman has decided to resign from PTV and quit the show “Views on News” in protest against what he says is “anti-Imran Khan propaganda”. It will be the first example in Pakistani TV Channels history if Faisal acts as what he has shared with friends.
“I have decided to leave PTV as I always believed in absolute journalism, truth, and reality. This government of PML N has gone too much below the belt and forced me to go anti-Imran Khan. I believe he is the only man who can save Pakistan and the people. Prayers are needed as I will surely be the next victim. Love you all” Faisal noted in a social media text.
Pakistan Television PTV is a state-run tv channel that promotes the government’s point of view and policies to the viewers. How liberal and independent can a state-run tv be where the private channels and the press are pressed with the weapon of government advertisements?
Many other measures are also taken to keep the media and press in line with the government’s stance but it has not been the practice of the present regime only. All governments including the government of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf with Prime Minister Imran Khan did the same.
Hundreds of newspapers and many tv channels were locked down during the PTI regime “thanks to” their media policy of taking social media only as their tool to reach and convince the public in their favor.
Information Minister of Prime Minister Imran Khan made it clear soon after the formation of the government that they do not need newspapers and tv channels. They are good with mobile phones only from where they can use social media, especially Twitter.
Information Minister of Imran Khan slapped two anchor persons Mubashar Luqman and Sami Ibrahim in the public only for their disobedience to his directions or they aired some material that was disturbing to the minister. No such incident has happened so far in PDM government.
