Baku: 18 Oct 2022 – President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev has shared on iMZA his statement on the restoration of the state independence on 18 Oct, 1991. He said, “Azerbaijan again declared its state independence due to the collapse of the USSR in the late XX century. At the session of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 18, 1991, the Constitutional Act “On State Independence of the Republic Of Azerbaijan” was adopted.
The Constitution Act referred to the Declaration of Independence dated May 28, 1918 and the Declaration dated August 30, 1991 of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Restoring the State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijani”, Azerbaijan It has been proven that the Republic of life is the heir of the Azerbaijan People’s Republic.
Thus, according to the Constitutional Act “On State Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, the Azerbaijani people restored their independence on October 18, 1991.
The Constitution Act consists of 6 chapters and 32 articles.
On December 29, 1991, in the nationwide referendum, the Azerbaijani people voted for the independence and sovereignty of the country.
In addition, the tensions and power crisis that existed in the country at that time, as well as Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan, had a major blow to the process of independent state establishment.
After the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1993, purposeful steps were taken towards the realization of the ideas of the national independence of the nation, Azerbaijan’s statehood traditions and sovereignty were restored.
