ISLAMABAD: 20 Aug 2024 – Federal Ombudsman Ijaz Ahmad Qureshi has said that the international conference of ombudsmen under the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) will be held in Islamabad soon, in which the Ombudsmen and their representatives from Asia, Muslim countries and the World will participate.
Heads of international organizations and their representatives will participate in large numbers. The participation of the Secretary General or the President of the United Nations is also expected in the symposium.
Federal Ombudsman shared this during an informal conversation with the journalists. He said , ” In the symposium, apart from making the institutions of Ombudsmen more active and increasing their capacity, there will be a fruitful discussion on the topic of sustainable development under Agenda 2030. It will also provide an opportunity to showcase Pakistan’s cultural heritage and facilities to the world.”
The Federal Ombudsman of Pakistan has been unanimously elected as the President of AOA for 04 years, which is a great honor for Pakistan because “AOA” represents two-thirds of the world’s population.
Asian Ombudsman Association for an Effective Role in Improving the Quality of Life for the Common man through Better Governance
He said that new regional offices are going to be opened soon in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, after which people from 24 cities of the country will be able to benefit from our institution. Free justice is being provided to the common people near their homes through the regional offices.
He said that the federal ombudsman’s office has made decisions on more than 1 lakh 27 thousand complaints so far, while more than 1 lakh 32 thousand complaints have been received during this period.
During this year, our Investigation Officers went to remote areas of the country and took decisions on 2,210 complaints, so that the complainants did not have to bear the trouble of travel or spend a single penny.
He said that I have instructed the officers of my organization and the heads of the federal administrative agencies to take measures to ensure the implementation of the decisions of the federal ombudsman in the shortest possible time.

Since the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat is a poor man’s court that is intended to give justice to the poor and the backward class, the government officers should use all their efforts to redress the grievances of the poor people.
Speaking to the media, the Federal Ombudsman said that without asking for additional budget and more staff, the tireless work of our officers and the implementation of programs such as open kachehris and informal resolution of conflicts, have been of great benefit to the common people.
There has been a lot of improvement in solving the problems and complaints are increasing every year, 164 thousand 174 complaints were received during the year 2022, which increased to 194 thousand 99 in 2023, which is on the federal ombudsman.
He said that the Informal Resolution of Disputes (IRD) program of the Federal Ombudsman has been very successful, it has solved many problems of poor people. So far 7515 cases have been resolved under this program. He said that media has an important role in creating awareness among the people.
