According to news reports the Monal restaurant will be converted into wildlife centre. Monal was one of the finest eateries and an iconic landmark in Islamabad.
The restaurant on top of majestic Margala Hills provided some moments of fun and recreation to families especially on wintery Sundays.
Ustad Zahid playing nostalgic ghazals with delicious buffet on a sunny afternoon used to be a delight.
Even the diplomatic community based in Islamabad frequented the place.
When I was posted in New Delhi the principal of Indian capital’s public school, while reminiscing about her visit to Pakistan’s capital nostalgically remarked that she went to Monal and while sitting up there she got lost in the mesmerising beauty of majestic Margalas and Islamabad the beautiful.
Why punish Islamabad and why not those who violated the master plan and flouted the rules?
Why not take to task those who allowed the restaurant to be set up in the first place and why now deprive the fun hungry people of Islamabad of a fine eatery and family recreation place?
