Kazakhstan Pioneers to Support for Afghanistan – Food Security Headquarter will be Set Up there

Islamabad, 19 December 2021 – First Deputy Foreign Minister Shakhrat Nuryshev took part in an Extraordinary Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Council of Foreign Ministers on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

In his speech, Sh. Nuryshev noted the contribution of Kazakhstan and efforts of the international community to restore Afghanistan and overcome the humanitarian crisis in this country.

In this regard, he announced a number of proposals, including the increased use of the Islamic Organization potential for food security to assist Afghanistan, cooperation of the OIC countries in training Afghan students in Kazakhstan, the use of the Kazakhstan “Qazvac” vaccine and the AIFC to cooperate with the Humanitarian Trust Fund of the Islamic Development Bank.

One of the important results of the meeting was the decision to form a Food Security Program for Afghanistan under the auspices of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, with the headquarter in Kazakhstan.

The event showed solidarity of Muslim countries with the Afghan people and their will to take active steps to prevent the deterioration of the situation. The Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan addressed the participants of the OIC Ministerial Council with an appeal to transform statements into real actions regarding assistance to Afghanistan.
A special guest on the humanitarian situation in the country, acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki assured the participants that the new authorities ensure security for all their people and take necessary measures to meet the demands and expectations of the OIC and the international community, including the struggle against terrorism and drug trafficking. At the same time, he drew attention to the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and funding for citizens of Afghanistan.
One of the important results of the meeting was the decision to form a Food Security Program for Afghanistan under the auspices of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, with the headquarter in Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, the parties adopted a joint statement in which they declared their readiness to further provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, and also consolidated the decision to appoint Tarig Ali Bakhit , the OIC Deputy Secretary General, as a Special Representative of the Secretary General on Afghanistan.
