LGC Recommends Suspension of Mayor Islamabad on Corruption Charges

Islamabad; The Local Government Commission (LGC)has recommended to the Interior Ministry of Pakistan for the suspension of Mayor of Islamabad Sheikh Ansar Aziz with immediate effect on corruption charges in Inter City Transport amounting to 40 Million PKR.

LGC was established in Islamabad the Capital Territory by the Prime Minister under the chairmanship of Ali Nawaz Awan MNA only to keep an eye on the affairs of Islamabad Capital Territory administration that was occupied by PMLN stalwart Sheikh Ansar Aziz as Mayor of Islamabad.

The Commission held its meeting on 14 May 2020, presided by the Chairman Ali Nawaz Awan. Chief Metropolitan Officer Syeda Shafaq Hashmi put up a reference of corruption of 40 Million PKR in Inter City Transport Bus Station.

Majority of the members voted in favor of filing the reference on which the Chairman forwarded the recommendation of suspension of Mayor for transparent investigation.

The LGC took decisions on some other matters of what they said of corruption.

1- The matter of tax evasion of Billions of Rupees in Bill Boards and BTS Towers installations was referred to FIA for investigation.

2- The administration of the Mayor failed in holding the auction of Mawaishi Mandi for two consecutive years and awarded the contract without tender ,bidding and competition. This matter has been referred to CMO for further investigation.

3- Directorate of Municipal Administration could not recover huge amounts because many cheques were bounced. The LGC decided to get FIRs registered against the defaulters.
