ISLAMABAD: The National institute of folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) is holding is mega Cultural event known “Lok Mela” at its premises from 3rd to 12th November 2023. The festival aims at promoting cultural Heritage of Pakistan and strengthening national harmony and integration among all federating units through a cultural perspective.
In this regard, a press briefing/ curtain raiser was held at Lok Virsa on 1st Nov 2023. Federal Minister for Heritage and Culture Syed Jamal Shah briefed the media about salient features of the Mela and its preparation. Jamal Shah who himself is a renowned cultural personality and have led the cultural institutions of Pakistan in the past, informed the media that Lok Virsa administration is all set to present the shining image of Pakistan to the world in the shape of this event. ED Lok Virsa Malik Uzair Khan was also present.
He said that the main focus of this festival will be to express solidarity with Palestine amid severe onslaught of Israel against innocent Palestinian people. He said that a special stall will be setup for Palestinians. Various merchandize and a donation box will be put in the stall. The proceeding will be donated for Palestinian cause.
Deputy Head of Palestine in Pakistan, H.E Nader Al-Turk also spoke on the occasion. He urged the world particularly Muslim Umma to help and support Palestine in these times of sufferings.
This festival is a chance for master artisans, folk artist and folk dances of Pakistan to show case their talent on a national level and earn recognition and livelihood. More than 500 master artisans and folk artist from all over the country are participating in the festival bring with themselves their skills and creativity during the 10-days event.

Provincial pavilions setup by the respective cultural departments of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be the highlight of this festival. These pavilions will offer handcrafted items. The onlookers can also entertain themselves with traditional songs and folk dances. A variety of mouthwatering traditional cuisine will also entice visitors.
During the Mela, all provinces, Azad Kashmir and GB will organize cultural featuring renowned folk and mainstream artist who will enthrall the audience every evening.
The regional customs and cultural traditions of our country are the backbone of our society. The land of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kahsmir and Gilgit-Baltistan is rich in storytelling, folk dialects and famous folklores.
The festival is expected to bring huge applaud and appreciation from inside and outside of country, from the citizens and the foreign community this year because this festival is being managed by aniconic artist Mr. Jamal Shah himself. The Festival will for sure be a feather in the cap of caretaker government of Pakistan.
Executive Director Lok Virsa Malik Uzair Khan welcomed the minister on his arrival at lok virsa. after the press conference he took the minister around the venue where the minister examined the final preparations for the festival. The minister expressed his satisfaction on the arrangements.
