NIMA Pakistan Organizes Awareness Workshop for Media on Maritime Affairs & Blue Economy

Islamabad: 27 Aug 2024 – The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) organized an awareness and advocacy workshop focused on maritime affairs for media personnel in Islamabad.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed attended as the Chief Guest, highlighting the media’s significant role in modern society and commending NIMA for its efforts in raising awareness on maritime issues.
Other prominent speakers included Amb. Masood Khalid, Mr. Raheel Masood, Moazzam Khan, Mr. Baber Bilal Haider, Dr. Kanwar Javed Iqbal, Mr. Faisal Raza Khan, Dr. Fasiha Safdar and Barrister Nudrat Bayan Majeed.

The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge of media professionals regarding Pakistan’s maritime affairs, emphasizing the connection between the maritime economy, often referred to as the Blue Economy, and national security. Participants from various media outlets were provided with insights into the importance of accurate and responsible reporting on these critical issues.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed  underlined the important role of media in the modern era. He was of the view that responsible media is the need of the hour to provide authentic information without prejudices. He also noted that, Maritime Awareness & Advocacy is very important for Pakistan to highlight its capabilities in this sector.

Vice Admiral (Retd) Ahmed Saeed HI(M), President of NIMA, discussed the strategic importance of the Blue Economy, focusing on sustainable development and the effective use of ocean resources. He outlined NIMA’s efforts in promoting this economic model, which prioritizes environmental sustainability alongside economic growth.
The event featured presentations by several experts, including diplomats, scholars, and professionals in the field, who covered topics related to geopolitics, regional stability, and the economic impact of maritime activities. These discussions were aimed at enhancing the media’s understanding of the broader implications of maritime policies on national development.
Concluding the workshop, the Chief Guest distributed certificates to the participants, recognizing their commitment to improving their reporting on maritime affairs. The event underscored the vital role of the media in nation-building and the importance of fostering informed discourse on key issues like the Blue Economy.
