Islamabad: Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide called on Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Ministry of Interior. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warmly welcomed the Norwegian Foreign Minister upon his arrival at the Ministry.
The meeting included detailed discussions on the promotion of bilateral relations and the regional situation. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in various areas, including counterterrorism, prevention of illegal immigration, police training, and mutual legal assistance.
The situation in Afghanistan and the activities of banned organizations operating there were also discussed.
The Norwegian Foreign Minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and active role in helping reduce tensions between the United States and Iran.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan’s effective measures have resulted in a 47 percent reduction in illegal immigration to Europe. He said Pakistan has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal immigration, and Pakistan’s measures in this regard have also been appreciated by the European Union.
The Federal Interior Minister emphasized that promoting legal immigration is extremely important for effectively curbing illegal immigration.
Mohsin Naqvi said that Afghan soil continues to be used for terrorism in Pakistan. “Pakistan stands as a wall between the world and terrorism,” he said, stressing that everyone must work together for the complete eradication of terrorism.
Mohsin Naqvi said the Norwegian Foreign Minister’s visit would prove to be an important milestone in further strengthening bilateral relations.
The Norwegian Foreign Minister appreciated the active role of the Pakistani community in Norway, saying that the Pakistani community is playing an important role in various fields, including politics and healthcare.
Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, Federal Secretary Interior and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
