Abuja, 1 September 2025 – The High Commission of Pakistan in Nigeria, under the leadership of Major General (Retired) Sohail Ahmed Khan, hosted a dignified ceremony to jointly celebrate Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, Defence Day, and Mark-e-Haq.
The event was graced by representatives of more than 80 countries, including Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Defence Attachés, senior officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, government officials, and members of the Pakistani community.
In his keynote address, the High Commissioner highlighted Pakistan’s remarkable journey since 1947 – from resilience and economic growth to its global contributions in peacekeeping and counter-terrorism.
He paid tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces for their courage, sacrifices, and achievements, including their recent operational successes. He also emphasized the enduring Pakistan–Nigeria brotherhood, built on friendship, trust, and growing cooperation in defence, trade, and strategic partnerships.
A special highlight of the evening was when the High Commissioner himself sang both the Pakistani and Nigerian national anthems in his own voice, a gesture that deeply moved and inspired the audience.
The cultural and culinary spirit of Pakistan was also on display as members of the Pakistani community prepared regional delicacies from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, which were highly appreciated by all guests.
Behind the scenes, the High Commissioner’s wife, Mrs. Sarwat Sohail, played a vital role in managing and organizing the event, ensuring that every detail reflected the warmth and hospitality of Pakistan.
The evening concluded with national songs, cultural presentations, and the spirit of unity, ending with resounding slogans:
“Pakistan Armed Forces Zindabad! Pakistan–Nigeria Relations Zindabad! Pakistan Painda Baad!”
