Pakistan & Jammu Kashmir Dispute -by- Tayyaba Sherazi

Kashmir is one of internationally recognized disputed territory between Pakistan, India and China. Former state considers it as integral part ideologically while later claims Kashmir as their constitutional part. Whereas from economic lens, Kashmir possesses the status of jugular vein which cements the claims of regional giants as three of the Pakistani rivers originates from Kashmir and feed Pakistan’s economic back bone and on the other hand millions of tourists overwhelmed by India every year for tourism so there is no point of compromise over disputed territory and states despite poor socio-economic conditions of their masses have plunged themselves in two out of three wars merely for Kashmir. Thus, it will not be an exacerbation to call Kashmir issue a ‘nuclear flashpoint’.

Kashmiris under Pakistan administered Kashmir have been granted constitutional freedom, administrative autonomy and political independence. Whereas hostility of Indian occupied Kashmir is not deniable and situation transformed into worst since August 5th, 2019. Initially India denounced dozens of UNSC’s resolutions under UN Chapter 6&7 by calling them recommendatory not binding in nature but situation turned worst when BJP-led Indian government repealed article 370 and 35-A which alarmingly geared towards changing demographic infrastructure. Place where non- Kashmiri’s wouldn’t have propertied rights, now being allowed constitutionally to have properties in Indian occupied Kashmir which is clear violation of international resolutions on Kashmir and Velley turned into military siege since then.

This breath breaking, draconic and bloody game continued since martyrdom of Burhan Wani, the young freedom fighter. Kashmiris are subjected to savagery, barbarism and communication blackout and turned valley into lockup. Voices of innocent Kashmiris have been shut down constantly by imposing a life taking curfews, protesters have shot with pellet guns, youngster are kidnapped and sent to unknown places followed by looting and maiming Muslim women in addition to consistent ceasefire violation and situation of Indian viciousness aggravated further by stripping off of constitutionally granted autonomous status. And now Kashmir has become an unending game of Indian politico- religious bigotry.

Pakistan, despite dwindling economic infrastructure and political framework and biased attitude of international community and mounting hypocrisy of Muslim world, at every podium either national, regional or international (UNGA session) raised its voice against all contemporary coercive, inhumane and barbaric attempts by military and Indian government for engulfing Kashmir’s autonomy. It’s not just because of its significant strategic and geographic location but mostly owe to ideological ties, shared religious and cultural values and it has always supported all UN resolutions which favored an autonomous, free and Independent Kashmir.

At 71st and 72nd session of UNGA PM Imran Khan not merely extensively discussed but also tried to divert the attention of whole international community towards the undemocratic attitude of so-called world biggest democratic and secular state not only towards Kashmiris but also towards their own Muslim community. He also courageously highlighted the polarization and hypocrisy of Muslim world who have preferred their short term, mean national interest over long term interest of Muslim Ummah. He also shed light on increasing Indian military aggression, unsatisfying thirst for warfare and deployment of 750000 Indian troops on disputed territory which is absolutely insane and toxic hence responsible for turbulence in neighboring country but the ripples of its venomous mentality will take whole region in its dangerous folds and crown of keeping alive the Kashmir as disputed territory only goes to Pakistan.

Though, Pakistan has taken multiple peace initiatives but unfortunately all the peace gestures were considered as its weakness and Pakistan cannot think of restoring bilateral ties with India by putting Kashmir issue beside therefore it has and still fighting the Kashmir’s case as best as it could because Pakistan is the only ray of hope for oppressed Kashmiris. Foreign ministry and PM have run a Kashmir campaign on international forum by employing all of its resources and minds. And made people realize the day is not far away when they will breathe in a free and independent air.
