Masqat/ Oman: September 30, 2024 – Federal Minister for religious affairs and inter-faith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain has stated that Pakistan and Oman must work together to promote peace, education, interfaith harmony, and to combat Islamophobia. Promoting interfaith harmony is a characteristic of Pakistani society and is one of the top priorities of the Government of Pakistan.
He expressed these views during a meeting with the assistant to Supreme Mufti of Oman Sheikh Dr. Kehlan al-Khalusi. Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain emphasized the importance of mutual efforts to promote peace in the world.
During the meeting, they agreed to work together for peace, education, fostering religious harmony, and eradicating Islamophobia.

Salik Hussain stated that promoting interfaith harmony is a hallmark of Pakistani society and one of the top priorities of the Government of Pakistan. The people of Pakistan and Oman are connected through cultural, historical, and religious ties; they are ready for religious education, translation of important texts, exchange of delegations, and bilateral cooperation and MOU’s.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain mentioned the need to highlight common values in different religions regarding high human values and to work together to foster religious tolerance. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to work together for promoting interfaith harmony.
The meeting also included Pakistan’s Ambassador to Oman, Imran Ali Chaudhry. During his three-day visit to Oman, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain held meetings with Oman’s political and religious leadership.
Minister Salik Hussain had another high level meeting with Oman’s Minister of Auqaf and Religious Affairs, Mohammed bin Said bin Khalfan Al-Mamari, during his three-day visit to Oman.
He stated in this meeting that Pakistan and Oman should work together to promote religious harmony, peace, and tolerance in the world through interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
In light of the challenges and circumstances faced by Muslim countries today, there is a need to promote religious harmony, tolerance, and unity. There is an urgent need for dialogue between religions and cultures to establish peace in the world. The attitude of tolerance and respect is an essential part of Islamic teachings.
Various proposals were discussed regarding eradicating increasing trends of religious intolerance, terrorism and sectarianism in the world and the establishment of peace, and the promotion of interfaith harmony.
Chaudhary Salik Hussain emphasized that the Muslim world urgently needs unity and solidarity. He reiterated that there is a need to promote religious harmony, tolerance, and unity in light of the challenges faced by Muslim countries today.

The meeting also highlighted the urgent need for dialogue between religions and cultures to establish peace in the world, as well as the importance of tolerance and respect as integral components of Islamic teachings.
The participants agreed to enhance cooperation in the elimination of extremism and militancy and the promotion of interfaith harmony.  Salik Hussain praised the efforts of Oman’s security forces, who responded effectively following the attack on a mosque in Muscat in July of this year.
 Salik Hussain proposed measures for the exchange of scholars and religious experts and suggested holding joint conferences/seminars on important religious topics to deepen the understanding of Islamic teachings.
Both sides also agreed on possible cooperation to improve the curriculum of religious schools in accordance with contemporary Islamic teachings. Salik Hussain proposed establishing student exchange programs for the study of Sharia, the teachings of the Quran, and Islamic history in the religious institutions of both countries.
