Pakistan to Boost Cooperation with Turkmenistan – Reiterates Commitment for Completion of TAPI

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov have welcomed the new government in Pakistan and sent their warm words and best wishes for the President, Prime Minister and people of Pakistan in their messages conveyed by the Ambassador H.E Atadjan Movlamov.
Turkmenistan Pakistan are not only connected with strong bonds of shared history, common culture and same traditions but enjoy close and cordial relations at bilateral, regional and international level as well. Turkmenistan Afghanistan Pakistan Gas and Electricity Pipe line (TAPI) is the flagship project of both countries that is expected to be completed in this new government of Pakistan as the country needs energy resources that are easy to reach here and that are cheaper than the conventional sources. This would not only support Pakistan’s economy, but would also help meet its energy needs.
Transit Trade Agreement
The finalization and signing of Transit Trade Agreement is also on the cards on both sides that will pave the way to give a boost to bilateral trade and economic cooperation. President Asif Ali Zardari  called for an early finalization of the Transit Trade Agreement with Turkmenistan to further boost bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries. He said that the agreement, once signed, would help expand trade, promote regional connectivity as well as enhance economic activities in the region.
Both sides confirmed and expressed their desire for the early completion of joint energy projects.President Asif Ali Zardari said that Pakistan attached special value to its bilateral relations with Turkmenistan. He expressed Pakistan’s desire to work with Turkmenistan to further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation.
H.E Atadjan Movlamov called on the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, at the presidential palace Aiwan-e-Sadr on 01 April. Ambassador  conveyed warm words of congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed to the President of Pakistan on assuming the office of the President for the second time.
In turn, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for the warm words and asked to convey to the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov his best wishes for peace and prosperity and thanked them for their felicitation message on his election.
Ambassador  Atajan Movlamov, on 03 April, called on Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan and congratulated him on his recent appointment. Both sides engaged in discussions aimed at bolstering trade relations between the two countries.Minister Jam Kamal emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Turkmenistan, particularly in trade, for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The discussions centered on various aspects of Turkmen-Pakistani relations, highlighting cooperation based on principles of mutual respect and equality. Both parties expressed interest in enhancing trade volumes, with a focus on exploring new routes and transit trade agreements.
Ambassador Movlamov noted Turkmenistan’s potential to offer cost-effective electricity compared to local production in Pakistan, while also highlighting opportunities for collaboration in energy sectors such as LPG and electricity.

President Uzbekistan on State Visit to Turkmenistan – History in Making

Minister Jam Kamal expressed optimism about the imminent signing of a Transit Trade Agreement (TTA) between the two countries which is in its final stage and either shall be signed in Islamabad or Ashgabat Capital of Turkmenistan.
Both officials agreed on the importance of exchanging delegations to facilitate smoother coordination and hasten the finalization of the TTA, aiming to boost trade between Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
Pakistan committed for completion of TAPI project
Earlier on 26 March 2024, Ambassador of Turkmenistan H.E. Atadjan Movlamov called on Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik in his office .The ambassador conveyed his felicitations to the minister on assumption of office and commended his dedication.
Acknowledging the Ambassador’s warm wishes, Minister Dr Musadik Malik expressed gratitude for the ambassador’s support and pledged to uphold the partnership between both the countries.
Dr Musadik remarked that TAPI is a flagship project and Pakistan is committed for its completion. Notably, during his previous stint in office, the project experienced unprecedented momentum, resulting in significant progress and tangible outcomes. Looking ahead, Minister remains steadfast in his commitment to advancing the project so its does not lose momentum.
H.E Atadjan Molamov briefed that the intergovernmental commission and working groups meetings are scheduled for this year. TAPI is a win-win situation for all parties involved, added the ambassador. Ambassador extended the invite for the energy forum Turkmenistan will be hosting in Paris.
