Islamabad, 25 June 2026. A delegation from the Federation of Progressive Students, led by its General Secretary, the young Fatima Shahzad, visited the Cuban embassy and held a cordial meeting with the Cuban Ambassador, Damián Cordero Torres. The young people, students from various universities, engaged in a moving exchange during which they were given an update on the situation in Cuba, the consequences of the infamous energy blockade as part of the monstrous US embargo, and all the unilateral coercive measures faced by the Cuban people.
They were also briefed on the measures the Cuban nation has adopted, reflecting its creative spirit and resilience in overcoming adversity.
The young people expressed their solidarity with the Cuban people and, as a sign of this commitment, the general secretary of the student organisation reaffirmed her support for the sovereignty of the Cuban nation and her total rejection of the blockade imposed by the United States, as well as her willingness to join the solidarity campaign that Cuba deserves.
The Cuban ambassador was also presented with a ‘Letter of Solidarity with Cuba’ and a painting, created by Fatima Shahzad herself, depicting the leaders of nations that have fought for a sovereign path; the painting also reflects the Cubans’ spirit of international solidarity and the leading role played by their leaders and officials, in an original combination of moments that mark the dignified history of the Cuban Revolution.
The students also outlined their plans for activities to mark 26 July, the centenary of the Commander-in-Chief, as well as the need to organise activities that facilitate the delivery of donations to the island.
The Cuban ambassador expressed his gratitude for the visit and the support shown, reaffirming that the students’ gesture is tangible proof that those who are truly grateful never forget Cuba’s solidarity.
