Islamabad, July 13, 2024 – The U.S. government has awarded 108 Pakistani undergraduate students scholarships to study for one semester during the 2024-25 academic year under the Global Undergraduate Exchange (Global UGRAD) Program.
Administered by the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), the exchange program provides participants a unique opportunity to enrich their education by spending one semester of nondegree study at a U.S. university or college. The program is a unique opportunity for the students to enrich their education, foster cross-cultural understanding, and become community leaders.
This immersive experience will enable them to learn about the American higher education system and actively engage in community projects, contributing positively to the American host communities while developing their leadership skills.
The U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald A. Blome, shared well wishes with the 54 students as they prepare to embark on their semester exchange this Fall. “The United States has a long tradition of embracing international students and the unique perspectives they bring to a classroom. I am sure that each of you will represent your nation with honor and dignity and return home to Pakistan with new ideas and skills. I am proud that the United States can play a role in advancing your education.”
USEFP organized a two-day pre-departure orientation for the participants in Islamabad to prepare them for their upcoming exchange experiences in the United States. The Fall 2024 cohort hails from all regions of Pakistan and represents a diversity of cultures and fields of study.

“We are proud of each one of you for securing the Global UGRAD Scholarship to spend a semester in the United States,” noted USEFP Executive Director Rita Akhtar during the pre-departure orientation.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Pakistani culture, learn from your American and international peers, and make the most of your exchange experience. We encourage you to immerse yourselves fully in this opportunity and return with a wealth of knowledge and unforgettable memories.”
The Global UGRAD Pakistan Program is funded by the U.S. government and was launched in 2010 to enhance Pakistani students’ community engagement abilities, commitment to service, and leadership skills.
Since that time, more than 2,500 students have benefitted from the program. These alumni, now serving in various fields, are uplifting their communities and gaining worldwide recognition for their work, which is a testament to the program’s impact.
USEFP is a bi-national commission established in 1950 by the Governments of the United States and Pakistan. Its mission is to promote mutual understanding between the people of Pakistan and the people of the United States through educational and cultural exchange programs.
