Dushanbe Water Process Monitoring Desk Tajikistan
President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met with a group of United Nations Under-Secretary-Generals who arrived in Tajikistan to participate in the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028.”
The Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, welcomed Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General, Ms. Retno Marsudi, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General on Water, and Mr. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, and invited them to the meeting room.
At the beginning of the conversation, President Emomali Rahmon expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the high-ranking guests for visiting Tajikistan to participate in this conference, as well as for their continued support of the Dushanbe Water Process.
The conversation continued with a high assessment of the United Nations’ cooperation with Tajikistan, including its support for our country’s global initiatives, particularly in the areas of water resources and climate, transport and logistics, sustainable energy, agricultural development, digitalization, and green technologies.
It was emphasized that, in the area of water resources alone, 14 UN resolutions have been adopted at Tajikistan’s initiative.
The parties expressed confidence that the current conference will become an important global platform for uniting efforts in this area and developing water diplomacy, and will contribute to addressing key issues related to water resources and climate within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process.
A fruitful exchange of views took place on the further promotion of the outcomes of previous conferences, the successful conduct of the current forum, and preparations for similar events scheduled for 2026 and 2028.
During the discussion of cooperation with the UN University, confidence was expressed that expanding scientific and practical ties between Tajik scientists, researchers, and experts with this reputable institution will yield significant results.
