Prime Minister Pakistan to Attend 79th Session of UNGA – Departs for a Busy Week in New York

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left for New York to represent Pakistan in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 21 Sep 2024. Shehbaz , earlier , represented Pakistan at UNGA in 2022 at 77th session.
In his discussions with world leaders, he will highlight the issues related to global importance, promotion of peace, development and climate change. He will present Pakistan’s perspective to the world from the platform of the United Nations General Assembly. He will represent Pakistan’s position and interests. The world will be made aware of Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships.
Earlier, on the International Day of Peace,the Prime Minister stated in a message, “The Government and the people of Pakistan join the global community to reflect on our shared values of tolerance, compassion, and co-operation for a peaceful world, free of war and conflict.”
“On this World Peace Day, we recognize the importance of fostering dialogue and understanding among diverse communities for a peaceful and sustainable world. In a world often marked by conflict and division, it is essential to bridge our differences and work towards the common goal of peace, he said.
Prime Minister noted that Pakistan strongly believes in fostering peace and stability in the region through dialogue. To effectively achieve this end, it is essential to resolve the longstanding disputes. The foundation for any lasting resolution in the region thus, hinges solely on one critical factor: achieving a fair and just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute peacefully through an impartial plebiscite and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

He added, As we contemplate the significance of peace, we must not overlook the plight of the innocent people of Palestine, who are courageously facing State aggression. For lasting peace in the Middle East, peaceful resolution of the dispute according to the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Palestinians is need of the hour.
Pakistan recognizes the critical importance of promoting a more peaceful and inclusive world for everyone and is ready to working with the global community. It is only by working together now that we can build a peaceful tomorrow for our future generations.
Commenting on media speculation regarding the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said:
In view of some important upcoming diplomatic engagements and the ongoing preparations for the 23rd Meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will not proceed to New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
