Strengthening Pak-Tajik Cooperation in Defense, Security,Counter Terrorism Discussed

Dushanbe; 26 Nov 2020 – President of Tajikistan and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Pakistan General Nadeem Raza has discussed strengthening security and defense collaboration, countering terrorism, extremism, transnational organzed crime and drug trafficking, as well as promoting development, peace and stability in Afghanistan .

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of the Staff Committee of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan General Nadeem Raza. The meeting took place in the Palace of the Nation.

The parties had an extensive exchange of opinions on the current state and prospects of friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan.

It was noted that current relationship between Tajikistan and Pakistan covers a broad range of issues related to politics, economics, culture, science, education, security and other spheres.

During the discussion of international issues, President Rahmon noted that Tajikistan and Pakistan share similar views on the majority of the key regional and international issues that allow the countries to solve regional and international problems in a coordinated manner.

The importance of strengthening security and defense collaboration, countering terrorism, extremism, transnational organzed crime and drug trafficking, as well as promoting development, peace and stability in Afghanistan were also touched upon.

Current matters related to fighting the coronavirus infection and other matters of mutual interest were also mentioned.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ramazon Rahimzoda held a meeting with members of the official delegation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of Pakistan headed by Nadeem Raza who is in Tajikistan on a working visit.

The parties discussed issues relating to security, including the joint fight against transnational organized crime such as terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking.

The parties also expressed their readiness for effective cooperation and paid attention to the main areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
