On April 29, ADA University hosted an international conference on “South Caucasus: Development and Cooperation” attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and 40 participants from 23 countries.

The conference was very interesting both in terms of the questions addressed by the participants to President Ilham Aliyev and the answers given by the President to the questions addressed to him. The full and detailed answers given by the President to the questions of 40 conference participants from 23 countries once again proved his political literacy, as well as his high level of knowledge about the processes taking place in the world.

Statement from Aliyev on Ukraine

Alyona Hlivko, Strategic Relations Manager of the Henry Jackson Society of Great Britain, addressed to President Ilham Aliyev, “What could be your personal advice for Ukraine today?” – The question also drew attention. In response to Alyona Hlivko’s question, President Ilham Aliyev made three recommendations to Ukraine:

First, do not agree with the violation of territorial integrity. In fact, this is the real assessment of official Baku to the occupier in the Russian-Ukrainian war. This is confirmed by the words of the President, “Based on our experience, the most important thing is never to agree to the occupation.”

In principle, Azerbaijan has always recognized the territorial integrity of Ukraine. For example, during the annexation of Crimea, he openly declared that the peninsula belonged to Ukraine.

Official Baku’s position has not changed today.

Second, rely on their own resources. The president is sending a message that Ukraine must be confident in its resources, despite any foreign aid. Today, one-tenth of the aid provided to Ukraine was not provided to Azerbaijan during the 44-day war or during the First Karabakh War. However, official Baku ended its 27-year occupation with a 44-day war. Relying on its resources and natural resources,

Azerbaijan put an end to the Armenian occupation.

Third, not to rely on the resolutions and decisions of international organizations. The President noted that “the UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on the unconditional, complete and immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops from our territory, which have not been implemented for 27 years. We performed them ourselves. Three of the countries that have adopted these resolutions are permanent members of the UN Security Council and co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.

In this way, the President is sending the message that the only and real friend of Ukraine is the Ukrainian people. That is, although the adopted resolutions have a legal basis, they have no practical benefit. Neither the OSCE Minsk Group nor the four UN resolutions ended the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijan liberated its lands from occupation by military means.
