The President of Turkmenistan, H.E Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the extraordinary summit of the Turkic Council held in the format of a video conference 10 April 2020, called on the heads of the Turkic-speaking States to develop coordinated steps in the fight against the corona virus pandemic, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The video conference brought together the heads of six States – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. The event was also attended by the Prime Minister of Hungary, the Secretary-General of the Turkic Council and the Director-General of WHO.
“Today, humanity is faced with a new, extremely serious challenge, covering vast geographical areas, affecting the lives of many States and peoples,” Berdimuhamedov said, calling on the awareness of the fact that only joint efforts can achieve results.
The Turkmen leader noted that in the current conditions, it is necessary to ensure the stability and stability of trade and economic relations, as well as transport links between the States.
“In close cooperation with our partners, first of all, with neighboring States, Turkmenistan is carrying out the necessary work to ensure that these relations are regular, so that reliable mutual supply and transit transport schemes are maintained,” Berdimuhamedov said.
The Turkmen leader noted that thanks to the coordinated joint efforts of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, the ferry service across the Caspian Sea between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku continues to operate, which is the most important transport artery that provides cargo flows over a vast geo-economic space. Joint actions with partners in the region also make it possible to ensure the normal operation of transport corridors along the East-West and North-South lines.
“In General, all our States represent a natural territory through which international cooperation in Eurasia is carried out,” the head of Turkmenistan stressed. – This fact imposes a special responsibility on us, and the current future stability of economic processes on the continent depends to a large extent on the coordination of our actions,” Berdimuhamedov said, expressing his conviction that in the current difficult conditions, the Turkic – speaking peoples should show the best qualities – humanism, mutual support, solidarity.
“In the current difficult conditions, the exchange of accumulated experience and knowledge in the fight against corona virus, the development of new methods of treatment and prevention of dangerous infectious diseases, the creation of modern medicines, the introduction of new technologies is of particular value,” the head of Turkmenistan said.
The Turkmen leader proposed to consider such a form of cooperation as organizing teleconferences, video conferences, and other types of remote communication on a bilateral and multilateral basis with the involvement of practitioners, scientists, experts, other representatives of the medical community, as well as other structures and agencies related to countering the new threat and overcoming the crisis situation associated with it.
“I am confident that in this difficult period we will be able to overcome the difficulties together with dignity and honor, and further strengthen our cooperation and fraternal relations,” the President of Turkmenistan concluded at the end of his speech
The President of Turkmenistan noted the necessity of working out the coordinated actions to successfully resist the given threat, as well as expressed confidence in that at current time the Turkic-speaking nations must demonstrate their best merits – humanism, mutual support and solidarity. He also underlined that being a responsible member of the international community, Turkmenistan is in active contact with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, primarily the World Health Organization.
Assuring that the work in this regard will further continue, the Head of State underlined that in the result of timely implemented measures; the sanitary-hygienic situation in Turkmenistan is stable and is under control.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the extraordinary Summit of the Turkic Council upon the invitation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev who chaired the Cooperation Council of the Turkic-speaking States.
The Summit which was held through videoconferencing united the Heads of States of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.The Prime Minister of Hungary, Secretary-General of the Turkic Council and the Director General of WHO also participated to the event.
The participants of the Summit discussed the measures implemented at the national and worldwide levels on countering the corona virus pandemic, including the development of multilateral cooperation in the area of healthcare and addressing the common challenges. They also considered the ways of overcoming the negative effects of the given situation on the world economy.
