Islamabad; National Library of Pakistan has decided to open a corner dedicated to Ukraine where the students will be able to learn about Ukraine by studying the books donated by Ukraine Embassy.

An event in this regard was arranged on 03 Nov at the NLP head offices in Islamabad in which Director General of NLP Mr. Mudassir Mushtaq welcomed Ambassador Mr. Markian Chuchuk, DHM Vitalii Zayanchkovskyi and Dr Olena Bordelovska at NLP. The students and press representatives were also present.

Ambassador donated books to NLP and appreciated the cooperation of DG to allocate space for Ukrainian information material. He said that both countries have many commonalities in their culture, traditions and literature.

Mr Markiian Chuchuk spoke highly in his address to the participants of the even.

He said Ukraine and Pakistan – two friendly nations, sharing common attitudes, with problems-free relations. Our bilateral collaboration have always been a shining example of goodwill and sincerity, based upon mutual respect and understanding.

Ukraine, Pakistan – two freedom-loving and patriotic nations, proud for their Motherlands. It is very symbolically that Ukraine`s Independence Day and Pakistan National Day are being celebrated within just two weeks of each other. And that`s more than mere coincidence. That is fact that brings two countries closer together.

This year Ukraine celebrates the 30th anniversary of her independence.

On August 24, Ukrainians throughout the world (also here, in Pakistan) celebrated the Independence Day. This biggest national holiday was established in honour of an exceptional historical event – the adoption in 1991 by the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of the Ukrainian SSR the Act of Independence of Ukraine. This document crowned the millennial aspirations of the Ukrainian people to have their own state and to determine their own destiny.

For Ukrainians, freedom and dignity have always been and remain fundamental values that motivate and support the struggle for independence. Centuries of statelessness imposed an incredibly heavy cost to our nation. After many attempts to create our own state, we lost our freedom several times due to external aggression and internal quarrels.

We believe, it was very unfair – as Ukrainian history goes back to centuries, our land was a cradle of many powerful states, which played a crucial role in the history of Europe and Eurasia. I wish Pakistani people to have more knowledge about my beautiful country, her reach cultural tradition and place in the global development.

So, I take this opportunity, to present the National Library of Pakistan a book on the history of Ukraine. This book has been written by e well-known archaeologist Mykhailo Videiko, working at the National Academy of Science of Ukraine foe a few decades. Archaeological expeditions, excavations, and researches are everyday work of this scientist, which gave him a unique opportunity – to demonstrate us the way people lived in deep antiquity.

Mychailo Videiko made many of finds, and one of them – the similarity between ancient civilisations of Trypillya and Harappa, in the land of Ukraine and Pakistan. You may see these evidences in the book, as well as many other interesting facts.

In addition, we would like to express our wish to set up a Ukrainian corner at the National Library of Pakistan, and as the first impact, I am presenting symbolically a few books on our history in Ukrainian language as well.

We highly appreciate an outstanding cooperation between Pakistan and Ukraine that, I am sure, will successfully proceed in the years to come. Ambassador concluded.
