Tashkent; 11 Dec 2020 – Uzbekistan has officially become an observer state in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

A relevant decision has been adopted today during a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council with the participation of the heads of EAEU member states. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is also attending the Summit.

It should be recalled that in May this year, the chambers of Oliy Majlis approved the proposal on Uzbekistan’s accession to the organization as an observer state.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on 11 December, at the invitation of the President of Belarus, Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council Alexander Lukashenko, via videoconference.

The meeting was attended by leaders of EAEU member states – Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, as well as Moldova (observer nation), and Cuba (invited country).

One of the key issues on the agenda was granting the Republic of Uzbekistan the status of observer state in the organization.

In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan  outlined priority areas of mutually advantageous cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EAEU.

President voiced his position on the principles on which the development of partnership within the EAEU should be based.

The Uzbek leader believes that cooperation should be based on the principles of meeting the national interests of the countries, equality and mutual benefit.
