Many scenes are inspired by real Chinese environments and the story is deeply rooted in Chinese traditional culture. By incorporating Chinese culture into the game, it allows more people to learn about it, in a way that interests them.
A scholar says the reason why it goes viral is because it transforms a classic Chinese story into one that can be shared and understood by people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Wu Weihua, Scholar of game culture studies, at the Communication University of China, shared that,” We emphasize respecting culture and history celebrating Chinese culture. “Black Myth: Wukong” has taken something distinctly Chinese culture and made it universal, transforming a classic story into something modern.”
