ISLAMABAD : Monitoring Desk – Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romania’s President Nicusor Dan signed documents on a partnership between Ukraine and Romania.
The leaders signed a declaration establishing a strategic partnership between Kyiv and Bucharest.
“We signed a declaration on a strategic partnership. This is an important moment in our bilateral relations… One of the documents concerns the joint production of drones in Romania,” Dan commented.
During a press conference, Zelenskyy and Dan also said that work is underway to expand cross-border energy cooperation. Ukraine and Romania are building two new power lines to supply electricity.
In addition, Zelenskyy told journalists that from now on, Ukraine will celebrate Romanian Language Day every year on August 31.
Romanian President Nicusor Dan and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski met in Bucharest and decided to raise bilateral relationship to the level of Strategic Partnership, the highest level of cooperation between the two countries.
Public figure Oana Toiu shared , It’s a crucial moment between two neighbouring countries. They have strengthened  partnership and friendship in difficult times, looking maturely at our history and the responsibility to build trust between peoples.
Ukraine’s fight to protect its land, its people, its future, is a fight that protects both Europe and Romania, and  remain committed to supporting their effort to restore peace and security to the region and to integrate into the European Union.
The common commitment for peace and prosperity in the region also has practical dimensions:
• Framework commitment for collaboration in the field of energy
• The partnership for the development of the defense industry
• Mutual respect for the culture and identity of our peoples
As I announced together with my counterpart Andrii Sybiha in our first visit to Ukraine last year, we decided to work together so that the Romanian language can have a dedicated day and, with the meeting of the presidents today, we can say that August 31 will be every year since from now on that official day (decree 235/2026)
In Pakistan, Mr. Masood Qazi, the honorary consul of Romania in Peshawar welcomed the development in a comment. He said, This is a very positive and a bold step for strengthening the relationship between Romania and Ukraine to the level of a Strategic Partnership.

It reflects a shared commitment to peace, stability, and long-term cooperation in the region. It not only reinforce the security and sovereignty of both nations but also contribute to the broader vision of a stronger, more united and prosperous European Union, Masood Qazi added.
