ISLAMABAD: Monitoring Desk – Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, in a speech delivered on Sunday 10 Nov 2024, during the Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi, underscored the growing relationship between Africa and Russia, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration in several critical areas.
FM Attaf praised Russia’s contributions to Africa’s development, particularly its role in strengthening the capacities of independent African nations and supporting the establishment of their national economies.
“We hope today to elevate our partnership to the highest possible levels, based on the commitment and shared vision to contribute to the creation of a global system in which each of our countries has its rightful share of security, stability, and prosperity,” he said.
The Algerian Foreign Minister highlighted the comprehensive nature of the projects and initiatives discussed at the conference, stressing that they cover all areas of cooperation and are closely aligned with Africa’s current development needs and aspirations.
“We must strengthen the foundations of economic development in Africa and direct our efforts towards accelerating the implementation of the 2030 UN Agenda and the 2063 African Agenda, as Africa’s lag in sustainable development will significantly prolong the challenges facing our continent’s countries and peoples,” FM Attaf added.
Key priorities for collaboration discussed at the meeting included completing the decolonisation process in Africa, combating terrorism and cross-border crimes, promoting African-led solutions to African problems, ending Africa’s marginalisation in global institutions, and accelerating economic development.
Moreover, Attaf reiterated Algeria’s support for enhancing trade relations between Africa and Russia, as well as increasing Russian investments in African countries.
“Despite the challenges and threats it faces, Africa continues to prove itself as a committed and reliable partner, consistently working to build balanced relationships that advance sustainable development for all, without exclusion, marginalisation, or discrimination,” the statement concluded.
BILATERAL MEETING
Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, engaged in bilateral talks on Friday with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, at the onset of his official visit to Sochi, Russia.

This dialogue follows up on the implementation of the conclusions drawn from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s state visit to Russia in June 2023 and the discussions he held with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, the communiqué reported.
“The two parties also exchanged perspectives on significant regional and international issues, particularly the latest developments in the Middle East and the Sahel region,” the communiqué concluded.
