ISLAMABAD : 29 June 2026 – Azerbaijan has expressed “serious concern” over Israel’s official recognition of the Armenian genocide by Turkey on Sunday, warning that such decisions “undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.”
In a statement released early on Monday, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called on Israel “to reconsider this decision.”

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stated  that “distorting the historical truth about the events of 1915” and  turning complex historical processes into a political decision, far  removed from legal and scientific foundations, is unacceptable.

“Such steps do not promote reconciliation and mutual understanding,  but rather further deepen existing contradictions and hinder efforts  to ensure sustainable peace and reconciliation in the region. We call  on the Israeli government to reconsider its decision.

Azerbaijan will  continue to consistently maintain its position in protecting  historical truth, respecting the principles of international law, and  promoting sustainable peace in the region,” the Azerbaijani Foreign  Ministry said in statement.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said, the government does not see a need to respond to the recent recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the state of Israel. He stated this on June 29 while speaking with journalists, in response to a question regarding why Armenia has remained silent following the Israeli government’s formal recognition of the  genocide.

“We do not see a necessity for a formal response. We believe that  avoiding the ‘militarization’ of the issue—regarding the recognition  of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire—is in Armenia’s best  interest,” Pashinyan said, adding that he considers further comment  on the matter unnecessary.
