MIDDLE EAST MONITORING DESK ISLAMABAD
Amid the tense situation in the region, 312 people have already been evacuated from Iran, including 101 citizens of Azerbaijan. Most importantly, we did not limit our efforts to our own nationals. Our country has helped another 211 foreign citizens reach safety.
Among them are people from China, Russia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, the UAE, Jordan, Qatar, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Nepal, Turkey, Italy, Poland, Tunisia, Lebanon, India, France, and even Brazil.
When instability grips the region, it is actions like these that reveal the true face of a state. Azerbaijan does not divide people into “ours” and “others” when it comes to safety and human life. Azerbaijanis are proud that in difficult moments their country becomes an island of stability and support.
Under directives of Honorable Prime Minister and guidance of Honorable DPM/FM, GoP has designated Baku as the evacuation base for Pakistani nationals seeking safe transit amid the evolving situation in Iran.
On 2 March, 33 Pakistanis were safely evacuated from Iran via Astara, bringing the total facilitated so far to 64. Of these, 42 have been repatriated to Lahore. Arrangements for remaining are underway. Embassy Team is present at Astara 24/7 to assist.
