Extensive Arrangements for Elections of Oliy Majlis and Local , District Councils in Uzbekistan

Tashkent / Uzbekistan : 27 Oct 2024 – Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan has made extensive preparations for the elections throughout country. Regional election commissions have been established within the borders of the provinces and the city of Tashkent.
One of the main tasks of the regional election commissions is to prepare for and organize the elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber and local councils in the relevant region, as well as to determine the election results for the deputies of the Legislative Chamber in the respective area and submit them to the Central Election Commission.
The total number of members of the regional election commissions is 284 (58.9% are men and 41.1% are women).
Members of the regional election commissions include professionals from various fields—experienced lawyers, economists, educators, journalists, doctors, and engineers. The fact that nearly all members are highly educated specialists with experience from previous elections enhances the reputation and responsibility of the commissions.
District election commissions organize the preparation and conduct of elections for the Supreme Council of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, provincial people’s deputies, and the city of Tashkent.
A total of 725 district election commissions have been established by the regional election commissions.
District and city election commissions have been set up in 208 districts and cities of our republic to prepare for and organize the elections of deputies to the Legislative Chamber and local councils.
The main tasks of polling station election commissions are to organize voting at the polling station on election day and to count the votes, as well as to determine the results within their respective areas.

A total of 11,028 polling stations have been established by the regional election commissions.
The Central Election Commission has set up 57 polling stations at the diplomatic and consular institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 40 foreign countries, which are linked to the territory of Tashkent.
The total number of members of the polling station election commissions is 116,500, with 53.6% being women.
The proportion of women serving as chairpersons, deputy chairpersons, and secretaries in the polling station election commissions exceeds 22.9%.
There are 1,343 individuals with disabilities among the members.
It should be noted that 52% of the members of the polling station election commissions are citizens aged between 21 and 40.
The launch of the “E-Elections” interactive portal has also played a significant role. Through this system, political parties have the opportunity to work quickly with election commissions regarding the compliance of candidates with legislative requirements.
Among the candidates nominated for the Legislative Chamber by political parties, the number of women reached 391, accounting for 44.7%. This is the highest percentage in the history of our elections.
Compared to previous elections, the candidates are notably younger. The average age of candidates for the Legislative Chamber is 47.2 years. Of these, 44.2% are under 45 years old, and 44.3% are between 45 and 60 years old. The youngest candidate is 25 years old.

A remarkable 99.3% of the candidates hold higher education degrees.

Among the candidates, 20.2% are economists, 27.9% are educators, 7.9% are engineers, 9.1% are doctors, 16.5% are lawyers, and 18.4% represent entrepreneurs, farmers, and other fields.
Representatives of various nationalities residing in our country are also among the candidates. For the Legislative Chamber and local councils, there are 973 Tajik candidates, 588 Kazakh, 146 Turkmen, 141 Kyrgyz, 67 Russian, and candidates from other nationalities as well.
As is known, pre-election campaigning involves activities carried out during the election campaign aimed at encouraging voters to support a candidate or political party.
According to a resolution from the Central Election Commission dated September 20, 2024, the pre-election campaign for the elections to the Legislative Chamber and local councils began on September 22, 2024.
Furthermore, during the pre-election campaign, the appearances of candidates and political parties in the media are scheduled sequentially to allow political parties to participate in the election, as follows:
The Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party;
The Uzbekistan “National Revival” Democratic Party;
The Uzbekistan Ecological Party;
The Uzbekistan People’s Democratic Party;
The Uzbekistan “Adolat” Social Democratic Party.
The pre-election campaign concluded on October 25.
Campaigning is not allowed on the day of the election and the day before voting.
