ISLAMABAD: 10 May 2024 – Today’s General_Assembly vote calls on the Security Council to give “positive consideration” to Palestine’s full membership.Today’s General Assembly vote grants #Palestine the status of an observer state, with no right to vote in the General Assembly or submit its nomination to UN bodies.
Back in 2012 – 138 countries voted in the General Assembly in favor of the State of Palestine
Year 2024 – 143 countries voted in the General Assembly in favor of the State of Palestine
There has been progress by 5 countries during 12 years of diplomatic work!
There is a group of major countries that vote for the Palestinian right, including Russia, China, Japan, and many European countries… where France, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, Malta, Slovenia and Luxembourg will recognize Palestine bilaterally next week.
Today’s vote reflects a failure that deserves an in-depth review when we see the Kingdom of Sweden, which recognized Palestine in 2014, abstaining from voting today!!!
The countries that abstained in the Security Council and were not summoned, nor were they reprimanded or asked for clarification, the United Kingdom and Switzerland abstained again, so there is no one to blame or review!
This is not a victory, this is an entitlement for the Palestinian people.
Diplomatic work requires strategic planning based on developing a map of countries according to votes and how to deal with each of them to ensure the necessary alliances, and this requires more specialization in who handles diplomatic files!

Just a quick recap of what this means: by adopting this resolution the General Assembly will upgrade the rights of the State of Palestine within the world body – but not the right to vote or put forward its candidature to organs such as the Security Council or the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Granting Palestinian membership requires a recommendation from the Security Council. At the same time, the Assembly determines that the State of Palestine is qualified for such status and recommends that the Security Council “reconsider the matter favourably”.
None of the upgrades in status will take effect until the new session of the Assembly opens on 10 September.
