Islamabad- Tazeen Akhtar ; Pakistan has lifted ban on Israeli Country Code +972 making telephone calls from Pakistan to Israel possible. Earlier there was ban on the code and there was no direct communication between the two countries.
Here it is worth mentioning that Pakistani Passport carries a written direction that this passport is valid for all countries except Israel. Pakistan does not recognize Israel.
Few weeks ago, the news of landing of an Israeli plane stirred rumors in the country. Later the government contradicted the news categorically.
Pakistan Israel Contacts on and off the record has been noted in the past especially in Gen Musharraf Regime. Recently some Arab countries have developed close relations with Israel.
Lifting ban on Israel country code in Pakistan is being seen a step towards looking into possibilities of bringing both countries closer if recognition is not possible for the time being.
