On 03 Aug 2024, in Rawalpindi, in a tragic incident of short circuit at Hamza Camp (renown as Ojhari Camp)near Faizabad , 2 brothers who were Majors of Pakistan Army, their mother and 4 years old son died of burn injuries. Both brothers belonged to Chumbi village of Kallar Kahar in Chakwal District of Punjab.
Maj Ismail, his wife, son, Maj Ishaq and their mother were at their residence at the camp when the fire broke out due to short circuit that they tried to control and save their other family members but unfortunately failed.
It was a short circuit in the air conditioner that resulted into fire that burnt the whole residence. Hamza Camp is a secured residence area for serving and retired military officials where no one can enter or even stand by the boundary wall even.
This is the same camp where a disaster took place on 10 April 1988. It was a military storage center located in Rawalpindi. Following Prime Minister Junejo’s inquiries into Ojhri camp, President Zia-ul-Haq ordered the former’s removal and dismissed Parliament.
The latest incident has raised questions about the safety measures inside the camp in case of any internal accident. The residents are kept safe from outside but the incident speaks a lot about the carelessness of the officials inside the camp.
Short Circuits in A.Cs and fire eruptions from them have killed many people in last few weeks in the country. A particular brand and company is blamed for these accidents. But no investigation or measure have been taken so far in this regard.
