Libyan Head of State Announces Promotion of Deceased Army Chief Haddad to the Rank of Field Marshal

ISLAMABAD: Monitoring Desk – The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, announced the promotion of the Chief of the General Staff of the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Haddad, to the rank of Field Marshal, in his first decision following the crash of the aircraft carrying Al-Haddad and his accompanying delegation in Turkey.

In his speech during the memorial ceremony for Al-Haddad and his companions on Saturday, Menfi said that the decision comes as an honor to the Chief of Staff, Mohammed Al-Haddad, following the tragic incident in Ankara.

The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, said that investigations into the plane crash that killed Chief of Staff Mohammed Al-Haddad and his companions near the Turkish capital, Ankara, are still ongoing until the full truth is revealed.

Dbeibah added in his address at the memorial ceremony that the investigations are being closely and seriously followed in cooperation with Turkey until all the circumstances become clear.

He continued: “Our loyalty to these martyrs is not expressed by words alone, but through serious work to complete the path we charted together, and by continuing to build a unified, professional military institution based on law and discipline; an institution that is firmly established, founded not on individuals but on enduring national values and principles.”

An official memorial ceremony was held at the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity for Chief of Staff Mohammed Al-Haddad and his companions, who died in a plane crash near the Turkish capital, Ankara.

The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in accordance with established military traditions and protocols. The bodies of the victims arrived at 10:00 a.m. and were received with an official military reception.

The ministry said that the reception was conducted in line with approved protocol, reinforcing the values of discipline and belonging that these leaders worked to instill and uphold, and honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
