Pakistan Defence Minister to Participate in SCO Meeing in Astana

Rawalpindi: April 02, 2024 – H.E Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan called on Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif in Islamabad today and extended invitation to upcoming meeting of Defence Ministers of SCO that the Minister accepted and confirmed.
Asif stated that Pakistan values its close friendly relations with Kazakhstan which are based on mutual goodwill and understanding to bring the two countries further close to each other.
He highlighted that Kazakhstan because of its geographic location and its abundant resources, is a key Central Asian State and also an important player on the international stage as well. The visiting dignitary acknowledged the existing scope and scale of cooperation and desired further cooperation and collaboration in the field of defence.
The Ambassador congratulated Khawaja Asif on his appointment as  Defence Minister and wished him success for his tenure. Y. Kistafin informed about the current agenda of Kazakh-Pakistani cooperation and the main activities planned for the current year.
The Ambassador also discussed Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and related events scheduled in his country. In particular, the Ambassador mentioned the upcoming meeting of the Defence Ministers of the SCO member states and extended an invitation from the Minister of Defence of Kazakhstan to his Pakistani counterpart.
In response, the Pakistani Defence Minister stressed the significant potential for developing cooperation between the two countries in military, military-technical, and other fields. Khawaja Asif, while accepting the invitation, confirmed his participation in the event in Astana.
