Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Tajikistan Uzbekistan Sign Border Junction Agreement – Unveil Friendship Monument – Agree to Expand Transport Links

    ISLAMABAD: 31 March 2025 – Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Tajikistan Uzbekistan signed an agreement on the junction point of the state borders following a trilateral meeting in Khujand. They also held a ceremony to unveil the Friendship monument at the border intersection of the three nations. President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon welcomed the two Presidents, Sadyr Japarov  and Shavkat Mirziyoyev for trilateral meeting on 31 March 2025.

    After the conclusion of the trilateral negotiations, the signing ceremony of the Treaty between the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Junction Point of the State Borders of the three countries and the Khujand Declaration on Eternal Friendship was held.

    Important historical documents – the Treaty between the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Junction Point of the State Borders of the three countries and the Khujand Declaration on Eternal Friendship were signed in a solemn atmosphere by Presidents Emomali Rahmon, Sadyr Japarov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

    The signing of these documents symbolizes respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, and also serves as an example of constructive dialogue and effective cooperation in Central Asia. The agreements reached open up new prospects for strengthening mutual trust, maintaining stability and developing integration processes in the region.

    Heads of states also agreed to continue expanding transportation links, including increasing flight frequencies, broadening flight geography and launching new intercity bus routes between border regions.

    The leaders discussed regional cooperation, strengthening of good neighborly relations, joint implementation of infrastructure and economic projects, expansion of tourism opportunities of the region.

    Following the summit, the presidents remotely inaugurated the Friendship monument at the border intersection of the three countries. The Friendship monument will become a new symbol of strengthening neighborly relations, trust and strategic partnership between three brotherly nations.

    President Emomali Rahmon emphasized that “our countries and peoples are bound together by strong ties of long-standing friendship, good-neighborliness and common development.”

    “We in Tajikistan highly value relations with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, which are based on good-neighborliness, equality, respect and consideration of mutual interests,” – the Leader of the Nation noted in his speech. The Head of State further called the comprehensive development of relations between the three countries “one of the priority directions of Tajikistan’s foreign policy.”

    President , Emomali Rahmon, described the signing of the Treaty between the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the point of confluence of the state borders of the three countries as a “very important event.”

    Expressing satisfaction with the fruitful results of his recent state visit to Kyrgyzstan, Emomali Rahmon stated that the Tajik side is determined to make all efforts in the coming period to create the necessary basis for constructive multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

    Head of State expressed satisfaction with the signing of the Treaty on Allied Relations and the exchange of Ratifications on it, emphasizing that with the signing of this historical document, “a qualitatively new stage of development has begun in the relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.”

    In addition, Emomali Rahmon noted that “we are highly optimistic about the future of the strategic partnership and alliance between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.”

    Concluding his speech, Head of State Emomali Rahmon expressed confidence that the results of today’s meeting of the leaders of the three neighboring countries “will contribute to the further strengthening of friendship, good-neighborly relations, mutual understanding, respect and trust, as well as constructive and effective cooperation between our countries and fraternal peoples.”

    President Kyrgyzstan , Sadyr Japarov thanked the President of Tajikistan for hospitality and a high level of organization of the event, symbolizing unity and friendship of the nations.

    President Japarov said such initiatives as today’s celebrations will become a good tradition and will be held annually in different parts of 3 countries. “Kyrgyzstan looks to the future with great optimism and is firmly committed to developing multifaceted cooperation with the fraternal states of Central Asia,” President Japarov said.

    He said the countries successfully implement major infrastructure and economic projects, which are aimed to ensure sustainable growth and prosperity of entire region.

    President Japarov reminded that Osh, Khujand and Andijan cities are not only historical centers, but are also symbols of centuries-old civilization, richest traditions and culture. He suggested consideration of introduction of one visa, which will ease free travel of tourists in the countries in the regions, similar to Schengen area in Europe.

    President Japarov said the regional integration continues developing actively, while strengthening of cooperation in all spheres will become a pledge for sustainable development and prosperity of Central Asia.

    President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the Tajik and Kyrgyz sides on the signing of the border delimitation agreement on 13 March. Two border checkpoints on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, which were closed since 2021, resumed operation, and flights from Bishkek to Dushanbe and Khujand were launched.

    He emphasized that the signed document would contribute to stability, sustainable development and the strengthening of the region’s international standing.

    He noted that this week Samarkand, Uzbekistan will host the first Central Asia — European Union summit, along with a Climate Forum addressing common environmental challenges in the region.

    Discussions covered major regional projects in green energy, transportation and water and environmental programs.

    President Mirziyoyev emphasized that more active work of the governments in the economic direction should bring quick, real results aimed at improving the well-being of citizens.

    He also proposed organizing joint concerts and friendship festivals in border regions during the annual Navruz celebrations, offering to host the first such event next year in Fergana.

    In May, a summit with the Gulf Arab states is scheduled, followed by the seventh Consultative meeting of the Central Asian leaders in September.

    The president highlighted the development of close cooperation among border regions, pointing out that Uzbekistan’s trade with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan had increased significantly in recent years, with nearly half of this trade volume coming from border areas.

    He stressed the need for comprehensive modernization and expansion of border customs points, as well as the establishment of a convenient and modern trade and logistics infrastructure.

    A proposal was put forward to explore the creation of a trilateral trade platform featuring a permanent industrial and agricultural exhibition fair.

    To support industrial cooperation, President Mirziyoyev expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to gradually increase the capital of existing joint investment funds.
