Leader of the Opposition Responds to DG ISPR’s Press Conference: Setting the Record Straight
Islamabad, the December 27th: In a direct response to the statements made during the DG ISPR’s press conference, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mr. Omar Ayub Khan, has sought to clarify and counter the claims presented, particularly regarding the peace negotiations with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and allegations against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Omar Ayub Khan reminded the public and the DG ISPR that it was former Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa who spearheaded the initiative for peace talks with the TTP. During a meeting of the National Security Committee in 2021, General Bajwa emphasized that “all conflicts end with negotiations.”

The meeting was attended by top political leadership and parliamentarians from various parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and PTI. The decision-making process was inclusive, and the record reflects the collective engagement of civilian and military leadership at the time.
Addressing the DG ISPR’s repeated accusations against PTI, the Opposition Leader likened the statement to an incident involving Russian President Boris Yeltsin, who after delivering a speech, mistakenly re-read and repeated the same speech as an additional copy was handed to him by an aide. Omar Ayub Khan suggested that the DG ISPR appears to have been handed a “recycled script” that has been rejected and discredited on numerous occasions.
The DG ISPR has chosen to reiterate the same baseless allegations,” he stated. “This approach undermines the public’s confidence in official communications and raises questions about the intent behind these repeated claims.”
He emphasized the importance of respecting democratic processes and avoiding narratives that detract from constructive discourse. He stressed that Institutions of the State should pay attention to economic stabilization and security rather than countering Pakistan’s most popular political party and it’s leadership.
