Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has condemned a “terrorist” drone attack on the residence of Nechirvan Barzani, the president of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, wishing him good health.
In a message issued Saturday night, Araghchi pointed to the long-standing record of the United States and the Israeli regime in “instigation and sowing division among regional and neighboring countries,” including through false flag operations.
He stressed that all governments and international institutions bear responsibility to hold the US and Israel accountable “for the savage aggression against Iran and illegal and terrorist attacks on Iraq.”
Reuters cited security sources as saying that a drone attack targeted Barzani’s home in Duhok, the northwestern part of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. It added that air defenses also shot down a drone near a Peshmerga base in the region.
In a separate statement, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) also condemned the drone strike, calling it “an example of a terrorist act by aggressive enemies.”
It said similar actions had been seen in recent days, including the “unfair assassination of senior Iranian officials and oppressed Iranian people by terrorist American and Zionist armies.”
The IRGC added that such acts reflect “malicious efforts by warmongering enemies” to undermine regional peace and cooperation, and reaffirmed readiness to support neighbors’ security through strengthened regional cooperation.
