Islamabad: October 10, 2024 – The speakers from Federal Cabinet of Pakistan, Parliament, seasoned diplomatic community, professionals, civil society and media have noted SCO as the most important forum for connecting the regions and the people to pave the way for their common well being, shared prosperity and peace in their countries and neighborhood.
This opportunity to express themselves was provided by the Institute of Regional Studies Islamabad and China Media Group CGTN & FM Dosti Radio Channel at  “Pre SCO Moot: Building Bridges for Regional Connectivity & Partnerships.”
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh was guest of honor in the first session of the event.  In his address, he said that it is an honor for Pakistan to host SCO Summit.Pakistan’s image is changing towards positive direction by the efforts of federal government.
Federal Minister while talking about the strategic importance of Pakistan for regional connectivity, said that more than 3 million containers are transited through Pakistani ports every year and 50 percent of the country’s trade is through the ports. He expressed hope that SCO members will strengthen their cooperation in Pakistan’s maritime sector along with other sectors.

Minister Information Ataullah Tarar , in the second session, emphasized the importance of long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China. He highlighted China’s important role in Pakistan’s IT exports and overall economic growth.SCO Forum provides an excellent opportunity for Pakistan to promote trade with the member countries.He said China Media Group is playing an important role in strengthening the relationship between Pakistan and China.
Member National Assembly Sahar Kamran emphasized the need to introduce a common currency among SCO countries to facilitate trade and strengthen economic ties. She said that member countries should try to establish a consensus on introducing a common currency to promote regional trade and economic cooperation. Sahar Kamran said that this initiative will also help in reducing dependence on dollar and facilitate trade among SCO member countries.
Jauhar Salim, President of the Institute of Regional Studies highlighted the importance of SCO. He said that the SCO is the second largest organization in the world in terms of population, which accounts for 40 percent of the global GDP.

Jauhar Saleem said that the SCO provides opportunities to enhance trade and security among its member countries. Representing the National Institute of Maritime Affairs, Faisal Shah said that trade between member countries can be further enhanced by ensuring security of ports.
International relations expert Dr. Salma Malik stressed on securing the economic and social status of women in the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Speaking at the event, Sadaf Malik, associated with the tourism industry, said that the tourism industry accounted for 5.9 percent of Pakistan’s GDP in 2022, which is expected to reach $30 billion by 2030.
China Media Group Director Du Jianing (Tabassum) said that CMG is committed to strengthening Pakistan-China relations. At the end of the ceremony, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar presented the shields to the speakers. Former Ambassador of Pakistan to China Mr. Masood Khalid was also present.
