ISLAMABAD: Monitoring Desk – International community including Pakistan, China, Russia, Algeria and international organizations have expressed concerns on Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities. ” The strikes constitute a “grave danger and a serious threat” to the peace, security, and stability of the entire region and beyond, Pakistan told the United Nations Security Council during an emergency session convened on Friday.

In his remarks, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, strongly condemned the “unjustified and illegitimate” aggression by Israel against Iran, reaffirming that Islamabad stood in resolute solidarity with the Iranian government and people.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi requested the Security Council meeting, saying Israel “has now crossed every red line, and the international community must not allow these crimes to go unpunished”.

Among those supporting the request for a meeting were Algeria, Pakistan, China and Russia.

Briefing the Security Council, UN Under-Secretary-General for political affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, told ambassadors that the repercussions of the attacks were already reverberating.

“I reaffirm the Secretary-General’s condemnation of any military escalation in the Middle East,” she said, urging both Israel and Iran to exercise maximum restraint and “avoid at all costs a descent into deeper and wider regional conflict”.

She also noted that the military escalation came just as “some significant diplomatic developments” were unfolding, including the planned resumption of United States-Iranian talks in Oman at the weekend. Latest reports indicate that Iran will no longer attend.

Also briefing the Council, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said his agency was in constant contact with the Iranian Nuclear Regulatory Authority to assess the status of affected facilities and determine broader impacts on nuclear safety and security.

He stressed that nuclear sites must never be targeted — under any circumstances.

“Such attacks have serious implications for nuclear security, nuclear safety and safeguards, as well as regional and international peace and security,” Grossi said.

He stands ready to travel to the region at the earliest opportunity, he added, to assess the situation and support safety, security and non-proliferation efforts in Iran.

“It is clear that the only sustainable path forward for Iran, for Israel, the entire region and the international community is one grounded in dialogue and diplomacy to ensure peace, stability and cooperation.”

Grossi concluded by offering the IAEA as a neutral platform where “facts prevail over rhetoric” and where technical engagement replace escalation.

Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations has strongly condemned the heinous atrocity and crime committed by the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Israeli regime’s coordinated and extensive aerial attack on various locations in Iran on June 13, which resulted in the killing and injury of hundreds, including women, children, scientists, university professors, and high-ranking military commanders, constitutes a blatant violation of the U.N. Charter, fundamental principles of international law, the territorial integrity of nations, and basic human rights—particularly the right to life and health, the statement reads.

They condemned the deliberate targeting of civilians, residential areas, and Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, including Natanz Nuclear Facility, warning that such actions could lead to the release of radioactive materials, posing a serious threat to civilian lives and the environment.

The Group also highlighted the explicit responsibility of the U.N. secretary-general to uphold the purposes and principles of the Charter, calling for a firm stance against the deliberate and blatant use of force against Iran.

They also reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense under international law, stressing that all states are obligated under international legal principles to refrain from any deliberate assistance or complicity with the Israeli regime in committing these atrocious crimes against Iran and other nations in the region.

Overnight on Friday, the Israeli regime began a series of military strikes in and near the Iranian capital, Tehran, as well as other Iranian cities. In a major escalation, the Tel Aviv regime also targeted residential buildings in and near Tehran.

IRAN CLAIMS DESTRUCTION OF THREE F-35 FIGHTER JETS OF ISRAEL

The Secretariat of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) has condemned the Israeli aggression against Iran as a flagrant violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Secretariat said that it is “gravely concerned about the escalation of violence and the threat to peace posed by Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

It strongly condemned “the flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran, a key member and the host of ECO, in a clear breach of the fundamental principles of international law and the U.N. Charter.”

The Secretariat also expressed its deep condolences to the people and government of the Islamic Republic over the loss of lives and the damage to civilian infrastructure, as a result of the Israeli strikes.

It underlined that attacks on civilian targets, including transport and energy infrastructure, undermine peace in the region and pose serious risks to global stability.
