London, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Austria Asadollah Eshraq Jahormi has stated that Iran’s participation in negotiations was intended to neutralize any potential US pretext for military action.
Joint US-Israeli military aggression began on February 28, 2026, following the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, despite ongoing indirect US-Iran talks.
Analysts see this as proof of the US preference for military force over diplomacy. In response, Iran executed targeted, proportionate self-defense strikes against Israeli positions and US regional bases, warning that further aggression will face a harsher response.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Eshraq Jahormi emphasized that military aggression against Iran constitutes a violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity, contradicting the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
He elaborated on the aggressive attacks by the criminal Israeli regime and the United States against Iran and the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The US and the Israeli regime have committed a clear and unjustified act of aggression against Iran, he stated.
These attacks are a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, inconsistent with the principles of international law and the UN Charter, and must be condemned by all members of the international community, he reiterated.
The diplomat referred to the indiscriminate and aggressive attacks against civilians in residential areas, hospitals, schools, and relief and Red Crescent centers.
The Islamic Republic, the official said, has always chosen diplomacy as its primary option.
History has shown that Iran has never succumbed to force and has never bowed down to any bully, Eshraq Jahormi noted.
He also called upon the international community to explicitly and strongly condemn the aggressive actions of the United States and the Israeli regime to preserve international stability and security.
